Anytime someone asks me to do a garden wedding or event, I get excited. Photographer Kate Jones of Pearly Kate Photography reached out to us to support her project which was extremely fun. Kate asked me to meet her at Antrim 1844 which I can tell you is worth the visit. Driving up to this property makes you believe you are in another period in time. As you know, I love creating events that takes your mind to other places like we did for our Harlem Renaissance wedding. Antrim 1844 sits on a few acres of land which means you can do so much with the event space.

With so much space there are many things that can go right or wrong. Here are a few tips to use when planning your garden wedding or event.

Tips:

  1. Use a theme that will compliment your ideal venue. Hosting a paint ball party wouldn’t be the best idea for this type of venue. I recommend considering your theme first and then finding the right venue that compliments your theme.
  2. Use colors that will easily compliment the venue. You never want to force something that just doesn’t work. In doing so you risk your theme clashing with the colors of the venue. Regardless of your colors be sure they match the obvious one… green.
  3. Take advantage of the outdoor space. We tend to spend far too much time inside a building for work or home. Allowing your guests to enjoy the outdoors breaks them away from the traditional indoor events.
  4. Make sure you consider your guests and have a backup plan. For this garden wedding, handing guests sunglasses, flats, and mini umbrellas might be best. If your event is outdoors, consider a Plan B if it begins to rain.
  5. Hosting an outdoor event means that a good portion of your budget will be dedicated to things you would normally have at a traditional venue. Things like flooring, restrooms, and standard lighting are just a few things to consider for any outdoor event.

Final Notes:

If you decide to host a garden wedding or event, pull from what is around you and enhance it. Consider noise from the surrounding area and also how your guests will feel while at your event. You never want guests to feel uncomfortable by fighting off flies, allergies, or heat.
