Engagement season is on the horizon. Wedding Wire states that between the months of November and February more than 40% of couples get engaged. Do you know what to do for a proper wedding proposal?

These days a wedding proposal isn’t as easy as getting down on one knee and saying “WILL YOU MARRY ME?” Oh no no no. Proposals these days take a little finesse and a touch of secrecy to ensure the ultimate surprise.

Back when I was a kid playing games with my friends in the neighborhood we could always resort to that infamous “Do Over”. You know what I’m referring to. It’s the moment where you make a mistake and scream out DO OVER so that you get another chance to get things right. Well this is a wedding proposal and a Do Over is out of the question.

We don’t want to pressure anyone, but your wedding proposal is just as colossal as your wedding day. You have to get it right. Here are a few tips to make sure you are as smooth as can be.

1 – Are You Both Ready?

As crazy as this may seem, you want to be sure you are both on the same page when it comes to marriage. The most embarrassing thing to happen after spending money on a ring and orchestrating this spectacular surprise moment, is to hear the word NO. Even worse is a yes that your partner later regrets. Throw out a few feelers to see where your bae stands on getting married.

2 – Stop Giving Advance Notice

Although 1 in 3 brides help to pick out their engagement ring, that doesn’t mean you have to immediately propose to your partner. If you want family and friends involved, only tell those who you know can keep a secret. My best tip is to create a proposal moment around things that you always do so that it’s nothing out of the norm.

3 – Don’t overlook the normal things that you do.

Think about what your partner loves to do the most. Frame a wedding proposal around that. If you always take couple photos each year like Jonathan and Derrick, why not use that are your prime opportunity?

4 – Where is the engagement ring?

There is no reason for you to rush into marriage, but if you do decide to pop the question please ensure you have a wedding ring. Your ring is a symbolism of the bond that you have together. Yes we know engagement rings are expensive and there is a lot of pressure to get the biggest one. Stop the madness and purchase something that you feel will not break the bank, but also make your partner happy. There are plenty of celebs with what others consider to be small engagement rings.

5 – What are you going to say?

As a Wedding Planner I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard a couple tell me they do not need to rehearse for their wedding. “Yeah yeah it’s just walking down the aisle and saying our vows.” Then the day comes and they are so lost in emotions that they wished they practiced.

And Another Thing!!!!

This is the person you have been around long enough to be comfy with. Keep your cool and stop overthinking things. Your partner is not going to get upset if you stumble over your words or anything else. Why because they know this is coming from your heart.

After he or she says yes, be sure to enjoy your engagement season. This is not a sprint to get in the book of world records for who can have the fastest wedding. Take your time to enjoy that moment, get your head back into reality, and then plan your wedding using our blueprint.
